Makeup Primers

Hello!

For a lot of you, using a makeup primer is an essential thing! It's become part of your makeup routine each morning, not long ago did I finally start using one. The more I grew interested in makeup and the preparation of it the more I noted the importance of primers and items to put on your face before foundation. When I was younger I didn't care much for such things, I washed my face carefully and applied whatever product I desired too. However now I have this fondness in trying and experimenting with products that will not only enhance my face but protect it at the same time. The first primer and the one I am still using is the Pur Minerals Color Correcting Primer (Peach)! Like many things I bought this on a whim, I tried it out in one of my Luxe boxes and just purchased it. I don't think I love it enough to repurchase it. Honestly I get sick of the same ol' routine, I can't wait for this primer to finish so I can try something new. There's just sooo many choices out there it's hard to choose!

Primer I've tried..
Pur Minerals Color Correcting Primer
This is a peach toned primer meant to neutralize skin color in order to conceal dark spots, under eye circles, freckles and uneven skin. I guess my logic behind this purchase way back when was that it would help to conceal some of my scars. I thought that by applying it would magically lighten the dark scars and make foundation application easier. This product is meant to be paired with the 4 in 1 Pur mineral makeup, I think the results may differ depending on if you actually use the matching foundation "powder". This primer did help to neutralize my face..by applying, it made my face one color any redness was easily diminished. Sometimes I find that I get more oily when I wear this product, it states nothing about being non-comedogenic? It gives off a smooth canvas feel however It feel it gets heavy when you apply items on top. I usually wear my moisturizer (Cetaphil Daily Moisturizer SPF 50), this primer, and then follow up with my MAC foundation & concealer if needed. I just hate the feeling of this when I start to apply my regular makeup on top. It's a 30mL glass bottle which retails for approximately $30! Also on a side note, I think it's important to pick products that tailor to your needs..I wish I would have looked at other things before jumping to buy. I could have purchased something that quickly absorbs excess oil; that would really benefit me but I was just an eager soul to buy buy buy haha;)

Here are some of the primers I am interested in..

MAC Prep + Prime Face Protect SPF 50
"A skin-protecting cream with SPF 50. Applies under makeup to prime the skin for the sun. Featherweight, fast-absorbing, oil-free, invisible. Will not affect the look, texture or long-wear integrity of your makeup. Specially formulated with oil-absorbing powder, helps prevent oil breakthrough. Provides high-level broad spectrum sun protection. Worn daily helps guard the skin against discolouration, premature aging, dryness and other effects of sun exposure. Suitable for all skins."

This sounds like a miracle in a bottle! It provides an awesome SPF range, it moisturizers if you have dry skin, it soaks up oil for people with such skin dilemma's and it protects you against skin related exposure.. I'm in love already haha! It's the same size as the Pur Minerals Primer (30mL) but it retails for
$36.50 on the MAC site..slightly more but it seems to target a lot of areas. This is like a one stop shot product, I wouldn't have to layer everything on which makes me even more intrigued.

Another Primer that I wouldn't mind giving a try is the...

It's always great when you hear people raving about a particular item, but it sucks when it doesn't live up to your expectation. The porefessional is supposed to...

Quickly minimize the appearance of pores & fine lines for smoother-than-smooth skin! Apply this silky, lightweight balm alone, under or over makeup. Translucent, oil-free formula complements all skintones and helps makeup stay put. Contains a Vitamin E derivative, known to protect skin from free radicals.

I love how this item is Oil Free, it really does make a difference in the wear of the product. The only thing is that I don't have big pores, so for me this would be something to just absorb oil and allow for my foundation to go on effortlessly. I heard you can also apply this on top of your foundation (on oily spots) and it can be possibly more effective. So far I am reallllyyyyyyy liking the sound of the MAC foundation.. I wish I could get a sample of both!

Question for you guys, does MAC give out Primer samples?? It's such a weird question, I know their pretty generous about giving foundation/ concealer samples so I was just wondering;)

Anyways what's your favorite go to primer?
Favorite drugstore? High end?

  1. I'd say PoreFessional or the Smashbox PhotoFinish Light - both of which I've repurchased and use. One other one I'd recommend (that I'm about to repurchase) is the Make Up Forever HD Primer (I think that it might replace my Smashbox). Good luck on your primer quest!

  3. I've tried the Pur Minerals one as well which works just fine. I like Benefit Porefessional too because the finish isn't greasy like some primers can be. I tend to stay away from anything with such a high SPF because sunscreen can irritate sensitive skin. Hope you find one that works!

    1. My skin tends to be okay with the high SP range, I have already been using a moisturizer with SPF 50 so I think that's okay. Many people seem to be LOVING Porefessional:) Thank goodness it's not greasy that's a big turn off for me. Thanks for your top picks Jayne!

  4. I really want to try the porefessional too! I bought it for my mom and she's loving it. I am using coverFX's primer for acne prone skin, and I've also used bareminerals PRIME TIME primer, but I find it to be a little runny. As Jamie said, I've heard great things about the MUFE HD primer!

  6. I use Urban Decay's De-Slick. I spray it on my face before and after I apply all my makeup.. I like how its not heavy and if you have oily skin its good for that too. I want to try one by Nars next..

    1. Hi Brittany thank you soo much for following me!:) The more I think about it the more I realized I forgot to mention some primers..opps! I really wanted to try the De-Slick as well! So do you spray it on before and after makeup application? I would love that because spraying first puts up this base, and spraying after sets it. for summer fast approaching it's perfect no melting makeup haha! I definitely think the MAC and Urban Decay are ones that I would like. Have a greaaat day
